Students from across Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD showcased their robotics skills at the district's first annual VEX Robotics Competition on March 26, 2024.
Third through 12th-grade teams showed up to the Nancy Watten Technology and Event Center, where they competed in the VEX IQ Challenge (elementary and middle school) and VEX V5 Robotics Competition (high school).
VEX Robotics is a company that provides educational robotics products to schools, universities and robotics teams around the world. VEX competitions aim to foster technological skills and help students create identities as STEM learners. Tournaments are held year-round at the regional, state and national levels.
Throughout the year, students designed, built and programmed their robots to tackle this year's VEX games. The competition consisted of three elements: tournament play, timed challenges and team interviews. Coaches guided their students as they used problem-solving abilities to create unique robot designs and formed alliances to maximize their efforts.
Around 100 students participated in the event, with eight teams earning trophies for their efforts. Robots that were used during the competition underwent inspections and modifications between rounds. Parents, family and community members came out to support the students.
